Paging Dr. NerdLove

Feb 23, 2017

One of the most common questions I get when it comes to self-improvement is: “how much should I change?” Or, more accurately: the actual, underlying question is “why should I change at all?”

When we've heard “just be yourself” over and over again, at what point does changing go from being fickle crowd-pleasing to genuine improvement and when does "just being yourself" become an excuse to not change at all? What do you do when being yourself is the problem?

That's why this week we're talking about bridging the divide between "being yourself" and changing to become the person you want to - or think you should - be.

Show Highlights:

  • Why cynicism and irony make authentic change seem undesirable
  • How the threat to one's identity makes you resist self-improvement
  • The first step you need to make real, lasting changes
  • Why being powerless is so appealing
  • Why it seems like changing doesn't bring us what we want

...and so much more.
